GitDocs Sync
GitDocs Sync is a GitHub Action for Docusaurus Markdown and MDX. It creates a read-only audit first, lets an authorized maintainer choose the scope, and then opens reviewable translation pull requests.
The intended workflow is:
- Source documentation changes in GitHub.
- GitDocs Sync reports missing, unmatched, oversized, and ready files.
- A maintainer confirms which language and scope should be synchronized.
- The Action creates a translation pull request.
- Reviewer edits in the merged pull request become the approved translation memory.
This approach fits teams that want to keep decisions and review inside GitHub. It does not remove the need for language review, and it is deliberately focused on Docusaurus rather than every documentation framework.

Azure Co-op Translator
Azure Co-op Translator is an open-source translation tool from Microsoft. It supports Markdown-oriented documentation workflows and Azure AI services, and it can be used from Python, the command line, or GitHub Actions.
It is worth considering when a team already has Azure credentials, prefers Azure's model and service ecosystem, or needs capabilities covered by that project. The setup is broader than installing a Docusaurus-only package, and the team remains responsible for configuring its review and CI process.

PageTurner presents a managed approach to translated documentation. That can be attractive when a team does not want to assemble and operate its own translation workflow.
The tradeoff is control: confirm where translated pages are hosted, how source changes are detected, how reviewers correct output, how data is retained, and what happens if the service is removed. Its current pricing and service details should be confirmed directly with the provider.
docusaurus-i18n
The community docusaurus-i18n package offers a lightweight, command-driven way to generate translations with an OpenAI key. It has a much smaller operational footprint than a full localization platform.
That makes it useful for experiments and one-time translation runs. Teams that need ongoing pull requests, audit history, permissions, and review gates will need to add those parts to their own process.

Crowdin
Crowdin is a full localization management platform. It combines repository integrations with translation memory, glossaries, human and machine translation, assignment, review, and approval workflows.
It is usually a better fit than a small GitHub Action when a company has dedicated localization staff, many languages, procurement requirements, or several products sharing translation resources. For a small engineering team maintaining a few languages, the additional platform and workflow may be more than it needs.

Does Docusaurus already translate documentation?
No. Docusaurus provides internationalized routing, locale configuration, and content structure. Translation is handled by contributors, internal teams, scripts, or external services.
Can a general AI assistant translate Markdown?
Yes, especially for small or occasional changes. The recurring challenge is protecting Markdown and MDX structure, identifying what changed, preserving terminology, and producing an auditable review process. If those needs are small, a general assistant may be enough.
How should a team detect outdated translations?
Start by comparing corresponding file paths and commit history, but treat that as an indicator rather than proof. Renamed pages, intentionally untranslated sections, and external localization platforms can make a simple timestamp comparison misleading.
Do these tools eliminate human review?
No. Automation can prepare changes and reduce repetitive work. The team still owns terminology, technical accuracy, and the decision to publish.

Measure one release before adding another tool: time spent finding changed content, time spent preparing translation updates, delay between language releases, and support or customer impact caused by outdated instructions.
If those costs are negligible, use the simplest workflow available. If they recur every release, start with a read-only audit and test the smallest reviewable scope before committing to a larger localization system.
